Start Your Weekend With AIV!

We have new offerings to taste at our wine and food pairing this week. The first is Altered Dimension Sauvignon Blanc from Yakima Valley, Washington. It is fruity, dry and unchallenging, great for enjoying spring from the porch. There are notes of pear, grapefruit, lemon and greens. We also brought in Pillars of Hercules Red Blend. This unique blend of three Estate Grown reds shows off its robust pedigree in the deep, dark purple color. The aromas are a lush mix of fresh blue fruit, chocolate and crushed violets. Juicy, mouthwatering flavors of blackberry, blueberry and sweet oak mingle with back notes of earthiness and pepper spice and fine, dusty tannins that coat the palate. And finally, we’re tasting Sirius Cherry Dessert Wine from Black Star Farms. This beautifully fragrant, port-style dessert wine is produced from estate grown black sweet cherries, fortified with cherry brandy and sweetened with tart cherry juice. It is then barrel aged for nine months in American oak.

Arny will be preparing Garden Pantry Viking Stew. The Vikings ate two main meals a day, one of which usually consisted of some kind of meal or porridge. The mainstay of everyday eating was the big kettle of stew (or skause – a Norse word) containing whatever vegetables and meat were available, and added to day by day. Food was a vital part of domestic life, and the evening meal was the focus for conversation, games, music and storytelling. It was considered a matter of honor to practice hospitality – you never knew when a member of your family would need the hospitality of strangers in their turn.

We look forward to starting the holiday weekend with you Friday night from 5-8!
